Serena Meyer RN, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
Fifty one years ago Serena was born into the hands of her father at home. Her own mother was part of the 1970s home birth movement and it helped to shape Serena's perspectives on labor, doulas, Midwives and the landscape of lactation support in the United States. She splits her time between private practice and working to support families that birth in hospitals and has enjoyed the diversity of the work.
Serena has authored articles on lactation and breastfeeding for La Leche League International and Native Mothering, an online breastfeeding and parenting resource. She is the founder of Bay Area Breastfeeding Support, and sees over 2500 families a year. To date she has seen close to 45,000 families. She also runs a support group with over 11,000 members in it. Serena is a Registered Nurse in the State of California, and also a Board Certified LC. She has two degrees and is a constant life learner. Serena's area of focus are challenging issues such as tongue tie, failure to thrive, previous breast surgery, painful breastfeeding and oral and structural pathology, bottle consults and lower that average infant weight gain.
Serena is married and has one child who she adores.

IBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. IBCLCs are members of the maternal-child health care team who specialize in the clinical management of breastfeeding. They commonly work in hospitals, doctor's offices, health and WIC clinics, midwifery practices, and private practice. In order to become certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners , an IBCLC must:
